| The Statesman : MiG-21 crashes at Siliguri A Mig-21 interceptor caught fire in flight and crashed into a jute field at Rabbhita, Phansidewa, about 15 km from Siliguri, on Monday afternoon. Pilots Squadron Leader R D Hem Raj and Flying Officer AK Singh bailed out safely at Baraijote, about a kilometre from the crash site. Locals helped them to the nearest police outpost, where they were handed over to Air Force authorities. About 30,000 litres of fuel spilled out of the aircraft, causing the fire to spread and destroy jute and other crops. |
