Vultee Vengeance

One of the unique aircraft flown by the IAF in World War 2 was the American Vultee Vengeance dive bomber. Inspired by the sucess of dive bombing techniques pioneered by the German Stukas, the Vengeance was a huge aircraft to fly and to dive bomb targets with.

As narrated earlier, No.7 was the first squadron to equip with this aircraft. Subsequently No. 8 Squadron too re-equipped with this aircraft.

The dive bomber soon proved itself to be a most accurate form of "artillery" for attacking targets in the Jungles and mountains. One pilot remarked after dive bombing a target on a mountain that "As I went down, I passed the target going up!".
