| At Kohat '44 with No.2 Squadron |
After completing Initial Training at Lahore and
Flying Training at Ambala, OD Agnihotri probably went to the OTU at Risalpur for training
on the Hurricane. Immediately thereafter he was posted to No.2 Squadron at Kohat in early
1944.
No.2 Squadron ahd moved to Kohat from Trichy in
November 1943 and was then under the command of Squadron Leader Kanwar Jaswant Singh
(later AVM). Kohat at that time was an 'All Indian', having Wg Cdr Subroto Mukerjee as the
station commander.
No.2 Squadron was at Kohat till the middle of 1944
when it moved again south to Kalyan, near Bombay. In November 1944, the Squadron moved to
operations on the Burma Front.

| c.1944 Kohat. Hawker Hurricane AG331 of No.2 Squadron. This Hurricane
shows signs of a presentation marking 'JACOBABAD' on its nose. This marking seems to have
been painted over in black in the photo. AG331 was one of the 300 Mk Is constructed
by the Canadian Car Foundry as a Hawker (Canadian) Hurricane Mk I (Later
re-designated as Mk X). It was later converted to a Mark IIB and served with 2
IAF and 6 IAF. Probably not long after this photograph was taken, on 3rd March 44,
The aircraft bellylanded 4 miles NNW of Miranshah after its engine cut after take off. It
was damaged beyond repair and was written off. |
