8 C&MU was established at 15 wing (Bareilly) on 22 Oct 63. The Unit moved to its present location i.e. Bakshi-Ka-Talab during 1966 under the administrative and functional control of Headquarters Central Air Command. Wg Cdr RK Kukkar was the first Commanding Officer of 8 C&MU and the 11 Sqn COs continued to be stn cdr's till 1974. Initially formed to provide basic facilities at short notice to aircraft as and when required to operate front the airfield. Laterally it was transformed to 38 Wing on 14 Nov 14. 11 Sqn moved in to the station in 1966. They used to operate ferry trips to Car-Nicobar. 21 Sqn moved into this station as 11 Sqn had moved out of this base in 1975. The Sqn was equipped with 'Gnat' aircraft. Air Defence Flight moved into this base in the year 1980. It was equipped with the marut aircraft. The Air Defence Flight was re-equipped with T-77 aircraft at this base in 1983. The AD Flight moved to Bareilly in Apr 92. 71 RMU moved into this base in 1992. The Units moved out to Allahabad in Oct 96. AD flight moved into this station on 15 Oct 99. The flight with its limited number of MiG-21 T-96 aircraft. 35 Sqn AF moved to this base on 05 jan 2006. 0. The AD flight went into the annals of history on its number plating on 30 June 06. Lodger units include 35 Sqn, 2232 Sqn, 952 Sqn and 358 TRU.
