2 Tactical Air Support Group

This centre was formed on 16 Mar 50 as No. 2 Air Task Force (ATF)at2 Equipment Depot Bombay. Nucleus of officers and airmen arrived on attachment to 2 ED, AF for performing the duties. The role of the formation was to control AF Unitss in conducting Joint Operations Army in Bombay area. On 22 Jan 55, the name of this formation was changed to No. 2 Tactical Air Supports Group (TASG) keeping in its role and task. In the mean time, an Air Force element of joint HQ Bombay came in existence in 1957, therefore, the name of the formation was changed to 2 Tactical Air Centre (TAC) in Apr 57. The centre after its initial formation at Bombay moved to Pune in Apr 57 to function with HQ Southern Command (Army). Subsequently, it moved to Bareilly in Apr 63, Kaluchak in Sep 65 and back to Bareilly in Jan 72. The centre moved to its present location in May 78.
