8 Tactical Air Center

8 TAC, AF was raised on 8 Sep 1965 at Jammu. It was established to control Air Force Units in conducting joint operations with No 1 Corps. It is affiliated to 1 Corps, the elite strike corps of the Indian Army that was raised at Varanasi in Apr 65 prior to Indo-Pak war. The centre moved back to Mathura after 65 Ops on 16 Mar 66. The unit moved to its present KLP location, within 1 Corps area, in 2001. At the time of formation of the centre, it was placed under the command and control of HQ WAC, IAF.As the peace time location of this centre was at Mathura, the command and control of the unit was transferred to HQ CAC, IAF in 1967. However, as the envisaged Op role of the unit " "was in geographical area of HQ WAC, IAF, the functional and admin control was reverted to " "HQ WAC, IAF through Adv HQ WAC Chandimandir in Sep 95.
