Wing Commander Arvindra Singh Butola (16789) F (P) is on the posted strength as the Commanding Officer of a Helicopter Unit, since 14 Jun 1999. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor, an Experimental Test Pilot and a graduate of Defence Services Staff College. He has more than 5200 hrs of accident/incident free flying to his credit, out of which 428 hrs have been flown in Ladakh and "Op Meghdoot" sectors of operation In the last 18 months. His Unit is the only Cheetah helicopter Unit operating in Ladakh sector. This extremely difficult area of operations, Includes the "Op Meghdoot" sector in the Siachen Glacier which has the world's highest helipads. Operations in these areas require very high levels of skill, professionalism and courage. Wg Cdr Butola has not only ensured inculcation of a high level of professionalism In the Unit personnel, but has also led from the front, setting an example for the entire unit under the most adverse and challenging situations. In addition, he has displayed the highest levels of flying skill, professionalism, management skills and leadership while commanding the unit. Apart from maintaining his unit in the highest state of operational preparedness, Wg Cdr Butola has taken initiative and keen interest In all the responsibilities assigned to him with infectious zeal and enthusiasm. True to the motto of "Service before Self", he is always ready to shoulder any responsibility, disregarding his personal requirements and comfort. He has always displayed a very high level of maturity and dedication towards the service. Wg Cdr Butola has not only displayed exceptional professional aptitude but has also been an epitome of sincerity and dedication to the service.
