| Details : |  Wing Commander Siddabathula Gopi Mohan (24527) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a pilot in flying branch on 21 Jun 97. Presently he is on the posted strength of C-130J, Special Operations Squadron at Air Force Station Hindan with effect from 08 Feb 1LHe was the Unit Training Officer since the inception of the sqn. He subsequently took over as Flight Commander of the unit on 28 Mar 14. Wg Cdr SG Mohan is a QFI, with a vast operational experience of over 5000 hours including over 1400 hrs on type, he shows exemplary vision and resilience when faced with challenging situations. Along with constraints of operating on a detachment, he has had to contend with shortage of aircrew yet achieve large quantum of flying. As FItCdr, he has led from the front and has dedicated himself tirelessly to ensure operational focus among the aircrew. On 07 Sep 14, in the backdrop of unprecedented floods in J&K, the unit was tasked to undertake immediate relief missions. As has been the case in most HNOR situations, Wg Cdr SG Mohan undertook the first mission by C-13OJ carrying more than 35 tonnes of rescue boats on the first day itself. The massive scale of the calamity brought out the best in him. Even after landing well into mid-night he got on with the job of galvanizing all activities including Operations, Maintenance and Admn. He tactfully mustered all his resources including attachment of qualified aircrew posted to other units. With sheer grit and determination he set the tone for extended relief ops leading from the front. With little concern for own comfort he multi tasked himself, flew missions till early hours, planned for the next day and all the while as a FIt Cdr and Dell Cdr kept a close watch on all the aircraft involved. On a single day, he flew multiple missions to rescue more than 800 people in the multiple shuttles and airlifted more than 50 tonnes of critical relief load. Under his leadership the sqn, with four aircraft and just five sets of aircrew effected a stupendous achievement of flying more than 230 hours and airlifting in excess of 700T of relief load and 6600 survivors, a record of sorts. Wg Cdr SG Mohan, even in face of daunting challenges and stressful conditions, ensured incident free flying. His astute professionalism and concern for Aerospace Safety was amply on display wherein inspite of flying every day, he ensured safe conduct of extended flood relief operations by innovatively operationalising a unit level 'Rescue Operations and Co-Ordination Center'. Leading from the front, he flew 67 hrs in ten days, with extended working hours till well past mid-night each day. His systematic approach, unwavering zeal and motivation inspired his subordinates to achieve this laudable quantum of effort; large flying effort with only five sets of crew and limited manpower operating from a Del. | Details : | 675144 Master Warrant Officer Anand Prakash Tripathi Flight Gunner is on the posted strength of a C-17 Squadron since 29 May 13. He is performing loadmaster duties on C-17 ac and holding supervisory category 'B' on type. He is a highly motivated and dedicated air warrior, with high sense of responsibility and devotion towards duty. He has good operational orientation and with his positive attitude and commitment, he has always been undertaking the assigned tasks unflinchingly. He has always placed service before self and volunteered to perform duties well beyond the call of duty. On 07 Sep 14, he was detailed to carry relief material from Delhi to Srinagar. Under his supervision within no time the RAMT and NDRF teams were airlifted for OPERATION MEGH RAHAT., all loads were smoothly palletized and carried to Srinagar and offloaded on the same night. Subsequently, he flew continuously for the next 13 days clocking a total of 35 hours by day and night and flying a staggering 21 sorties towards rescue operations. As the assigned load master his task involved loading and offloading of man and material that usually involved about seven to eight hours excluding the flying time. The jobs involves meticulous planning and long hours of physical and mental stress. His efforts resulted in rescuing a total of 994 marooned survivors and carrying 311ton of loads. He consistently displayed a high degree of involvement, initiative and professionalism inspite of severe physical and mental stress. | Details : |  Squadron Leader S Selvakumar (28716) Flying (Pilot) is on the posted strength of a Cheetah / Cheetal Helicopter Unit located at Leh sine ~29Apr 13. The unit role includes operations in the Siachen Glacier and the Ladakh region at the extremes of the helicopter flying envelope. On 16 Oct 14, an ITBP patrol vehicle containing 12 personnel, carrying out patrolling along the Indo-Chinese border near Hot Spring, fell into a dry river bed. All occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured. On receiving the distress call, Sqn Ldr Selvakumar promptly gathered relevant information and quickly planned the mission. The valley to the Hot Spring is sparingly narrow, hostile, inhospitable and without any habitation. There are no force landing fields to put down the aircraft in distress. In addition, inclement weather left the pilots with no margin for error, making the assigned casualty evacuation task very demanding and challenging. Aware of the fast deteriorating weather, Sqn Ldr Selvakumar estimated that only a 2 to 3 hours window would be available for the rescue. He got airborne for the accident site in marginal weather, at 1125 hrs. Short of the accident spot, he encountered extremely bad weather with heavy snow fall forcing him to carry out a precautionary landing at Tsogtsalu. Determined to rescue the soldiers Sqn Ldr Selvakumar made another daring attempt against all odds. Under constant threat of border fire and impending deteriorating weather, he landed near the casualties in the first attempt on a very restricted landing zone. On landing it emerged that all the six personnel were lying casualties requiring more helicopters. He called and guided the other aircraft while acting as the de-facto coordinator under the uncertain circumstances. Being the last to take off he once encountered bad weather. He promptly diverted to Tangtse and ensured that the casualties were administered first aid thus enhancing the chances of their survival. Once the weather improved marginally, he took off for Leh, once again dodging weather while ensuring the safety of the ac and lives of the casualties. Despite facing numerous odds at various stages of execution of the plan and facing inclement weather in a treacherous and unforgiving terrain, Sqn Ldr Selvakumar by his courage, leadership, and resolute attitude ensured that six lives were saved from a dire situation. Sqn Ldr S Selvakumar is a highly devoted and well disciplined pilot who has flown more than 300 hrs in the Siachen Glacier and Ladakh region. He has executed more than 200 landings in the 'Op Meghdoot' area. Operating his machine at the extremes of the flight envelope. he has evacuated many casualties from the Siachen Glacier and Ladakh region. His contribution towards the efforts in the Siachen Glacier has been significant. For his courage, professionalism, and dedication, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) to Squadron Leader S Selvakumar. | ||||

| Details : |  Flight Lieutenant Gandikota Jagan Mohan (30835) Flying (Pilot) is on the posted strength of a Cheetah/Cheetal Helicopter Unit based at Leh wef 08 Apr 13. Operating at the extremes of helicopter flight envelope, over treacherous terrain and constant threat of enemy fire, he has executed more than 600 landings at the world's highest helipads in the Siachen Glacier. He is a 'Glacier Qualified Captain' who has flown more than 300 hrs in the Siachen Glacier and Ladakh region. He has been a part of many casualty evacuation missions. He has contributed most significantly towards the operational effort in 'Op Meghdoot'. On 19 Sep 14 and 20 Sep 14, Fit Lt Jagan was detailed for providing air logistics to our troops to tackle certain intrusions in Chumar Valley. The situation in the area at Point 4991 was very volatile and an escalation was not ruled out. Point 4991 is of great tactical importance, to the extent that possession actually controls the 480 Sq Km area of Chumar valley. The tension in the area was now in to the fourth day and consequently the Indian troops were low on essential supplies including water. FIt Lt Jagan realized that in absence of water and other daily necessities the Indian troops might have to retreat thereby losing vital posturing in the Chumar Valley. He decided to start lifting water in any available vessel like jerry cans, plastic bottles and various other means. The initiative and resolve shown by him ensured that the troops received water and food thereby making it possible for them to hold their position. The supply point was along a steep slope of a hill feature with marginal space to carry out any landing. The approach and take off had to be carried out in an unconventional manner requiring both skill and courage from the pilot. Undeterred and unfazed by the difficult ground conditions, Fit Lt Jagan remained resolute in his mission and flew 32 sorties relentlessly in two days to supply two tonnes of water and essential supplies. The mission demanded exceptional courage, flying skills of a high order, and an undying commitment towards the cause. For his act of exceptional courage, dedication and professionalism in the face of heavy odds, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) to Flight Lieutenant Gandikota Jagan Mohan. | ||||

| Details : | 776027 Sergeant Mukesh Kumar Tiwari, Flight Gunner, is on the posted strength of a Mi-17VS Helicopter Unit since 30 Sep 13. He holds Category B on Mi-17VS. On 21 Nov 14, at 1610 hrs he was detailed to fly as a Flight Gunner in No 1 aircraft in a two aircraft mission to evacuate casualties from a forest area in Sukma district of Chattisgarh. He prepared the aircraft for the mission in a record time thereby ensuring safe and timely launch. He effectively briefed the Medevac teams and the Garud forces on the prevailing life threatening conditions on the ground and the importance of the mission. To save on time, he optimized the cargo space for casualty evacuation, while in flight, using innovative ideas. As the helicopter approached the evacuation zone, he effectively scanned the area and readied the cargo hold for landing and quick evacuation. Displaying professionals of a high order he assisted the Medical team in giving first aid to the injured personnel and transfer of casualties and their setting down inside the cargo compartment. His actions resulted in a vel}' quick loading and exit of the aircraft from the evacuation zone. However, on the takeoff leg the Helicopter came under a burst of hostile fire. The first bullet pierced through the door and splinters tore through his leg chest and arm. At the same time another splinter hit CRPF personnel. Despite grave injuries to himself, he kept his calm and composure and continued with his duties. He displayed a high degree of courage and determination in keeping the environment in the cargo compartment calm and under control despite being injured himself. He comforted the other injured CRPF personnel while continuing to perform his duties and underplaying the grave injuries sustained by him. His resolute spirit and assurance encouraged the Captain to focus on the other aspects of extrication from the area and safely leading the two helicopters missions back. Both the helicopters landed safely at Jagdalpur at 1800h. His courageous spirit was reflected in the fact that he continued discharging his duties right until opening the door after landing. For his exceptional courage and resolute commitment after being gravely wounded, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) to Sergeant Mukesh Kumar Tiwari. | ||||

| Details : |  Air Vice Marshal Jai Vir Singh (15758) was commissioned in Indian Air Force in the Logistics branch on 15 Jun 1979. During his distinguished career of 35 years, he has held varied field, staff and instructional assignments including S Lgs 0 of a forward fighter base, Joint Director of Personnel Officers (Logistics) at Air HQ, New Delhi, CLMO of an operational and Maintenance Command, commander of a premier equipment depot, instructional appointments at CDM, PO IMMOLS Air HQ RKP,New Delhi and key appointment of ACAS (proc) at Air HQ, New Delhi. He is presently posted as Air Officer Logistics Management, Maintenance Command. During his career he has exhibited positive attitude, professionalism, foresight and innovative approach in assignments linked to supply chain, human resources management, foreign procurement and enhancement of IMMOLS. As Joint Director Engineering (Mirage Cell) at AirHQ, he was instrumental in timely sourcing of spares for Mirage aircraft from foreign vendors with clear understanding of intricacies of foreign procurement, contract management and management of foreign currency. Acknowledging his professional acumen in this field, he was selected as a member of Ministry of Defence team for closing of account of Main Mirage Agreement during 1995-96 for two of the vendors namely Snecma and Dassault Aviation France. His involvement resulted in accruing savings of more than 3 million French Francs during this process. As Joint Director of Personnel Officers (Logistics) at Air HQ, he effectively managed cadre of logistics officers and introduced interactive approach with transparency to achieve greater satisfaction among officers on their placements. As PO IMMOLS, he initiated the process of migration from VC+ + to .net platform, e-concurrence by IFAs and IMMOLS connectivity to PCDA staff thus facilitating migration to paperless environment. As Air Officer-in Charge Logistics Management at HQ Maintenance Command, he was instrumental in refining provisioning process for systems ranges and management of airmen clothing. His active involvement resulted in speedy disposal of long pending cases of surplus weapons and scrap held at depots. | Details : |  Air Commodore Om Prakash Tiwari (16678) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a navigator in flying branch on 11 Dec 1981. He is a CAT 'P( Qualified Navigation Instructor, Air Force Examiner on IL-76, Canberra and HS 748 aircraft. He has flown in excess of 6000 hours and functioned as Navigation leader at operational squadrons, Aviation Research Centre and Air Crew Examining Board. He has held several important and challenging appointments such as instructor at College of Defence Management, Deputy Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff at Headquarter Integrated Defence Staff before being appointed as the Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Selection Board, Mysore with effect from 26 Dec 2012. With his vast flying experience in Canberra, Air Commodore OP Tiwari was instrumental in streamlining the Para dropping procedures and he is also a pioneer in night operation and formulation of standard operating procedures of IL-76 aircraft at Leh and Thoise. He was involved in active flying during Kargil operations, relief operations during Tsunami and earthquake at Bhuj. He has undergone Higher Defence Management Course and the National Security and strategic studies Course at NDC. As DACIDS (Adm) at HQ lDS, he resolved the issues in acquiring the land for HQ and the construction of Messes. In the Tri services environment his efforts to maintain cohesiveness were well appreciated by the CISC. As AOC of Selection Board Mysore, he keenly followed the progress of Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and his remedial suggestions to DIPR expedited the process and CPSS is likely to be commissioned soon. He has also ensured a conducive selection environment besides bringing about administrative improvement in the quality of life of air warriors, civilians and welfare of veterans. He resolved long pending issues of mutation of land and found permanent solution to the water shortage at the station by means of getting direct water supply pipeline and rainwater harvesting projects. In view of sub conventional threats, regular exercises with Civil Police/intelligence agencies have been initiated and SOPs have been formulated. | Details : |  Air Commodore Kishori Lal Yadav (16931) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an engineer in Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) branch on 08 Aug 1983. He has held the appointments of CTO at 815 SU and IAM and Station Commander, 820 SU. He was CTTO at HQ TC prior to assuming his present appointment as AOC, AF Station Jalahalli. He is an alumnus of DSSC and has earlier been commanded by the CAS in 1995. In his early years of service while working at Missile Squadrons, he used his innovative approach and skills to design and fabricate Azimuth Digital Display System in order to enhance operational preparedness of SAM-III Sqns. As CTO 'at IAM, modifications and innovative suggestions given by the officer not only resolved the problem of malfunctioning of OIS0, which had adversely affected pilots training, but have since been incorporated by the OEM. It was again his innovative approach which helped resolve the complex issue of power supply to HPHC at IAM. With his sheer initiative and innovative approach, he could resolve the long pending problem of heat management at UPS room at 820 SU and the innovation was circulated among other units under CAC for implementation. The flawless planning of core router and data centre infrastructure at 820 SU was perceived by him during his tenure as Co. As CTTO at HQ, TC he was the principle architect in formulation of Integrated Pattern of Training for abinitio trainees. As Air Officer Commanding, AF Stn Jalahalli,. he left no stone unturned in ensuring efficient of limited funds for work services, judicious use of scarce resources like water and electricity, effective sewage & sullage disposal system, provisioning of better amenities to improve the living standard of trainees and staff. He laid special emphasis on physical fitness and habit of being disciplined among trainees and staff. Provisioning and development of state of art training aids in adequate quantity has been his thrust area. These initiatives coupled with his innovative ways of delegation and team building have enabled the Stn to achieve almost 100% results and record number of LACs in REB(T) exams consistently. | Details : |  Air Commodore Sanjay Bhatnagar VM (17363) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a pilot in the flying branch on 22 Dec 1983. He was holding the appointment of Flight Commander of a MiG-27 squadron that participated in Kargil operations, where he was awarded Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) in 1999. He has also commanded a Missile squadron and a Radar Station. He has done a staff tenure at EAC and Air HQ and been Principal Director at Strategic Forces Command. As a Flying Officer in 1988, he was commended by the Chief of the Air Staff for having successfully landed an engine crippled aircraft. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and has done Staff Course and Higher Command Course. He has been awarded Aerospace Safety 3 stars for Superlative performance. Air Commodore Sanjay Bhatnagar assumed Command of a fighter air base on 04 January 2013. Under his command, MiG-21 operations were recommenced after a year long break and the Sqn was able to achieve 4500 accident free sorties in one and half years. This resulted in a large number of young pilots achieve their operational combat status. Despite the constraints of ongoing runway resurfacing in beginning 2013, the Republic Day fly past and heavy armament detachments of visiting aircraft were conducted in a safe and efficient manner. During the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection surprise visit in October 2013, station was awarded Average Plus grading in Maintenance and Administration and was appreciated for its operational outlook and air defence operations. Under his command the station has been awarded Best Maintenance Trophy in WAC and Best Station in AFNET. With close monitoring of maintenance activities and coordination with outside agencies, the station sustained 70% serviceability of its vintage MiG-21 aircraft, despite shortages of spares and support. Effective usage of soft skills, meticulous planning, innovative ideas and leading from front has helped the officer achieve improvement in quality of life leading to high morale and motivation for personnel under his command. This lead the station being adjudged the Best Overall Station of WAC for year 2013; Pride of WAC. | Details : |  Air Commodore Balvinder Singh Sabherwal (17374) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an air traffic controller in the administrative branch on 22 Dec 83. A topper of 73 Ground Duty Officer's Course and youngest ever Cat 'Pâ€.air traffic controller of his times, the officer in his 30 years of distinguished service has held various key appointments including CO Air Force Element (AFE) in Bhutan, instructor at Air Traffic Control (ATC) Officers' Training Establishment, Senior Air Traffic Controller of a fighter base, Chief Administrative Officer (C Adm 0) at Air Force Station Chabua, Air Force ATC Examiner and Director Air Staff Inspection at Air HQ. He presently holds the appointment of Principal Director Organisation (Ceremonials) at Air HQ since 29 Apr 13. During his tenure as CO AFE in Bhutan, he led his fire fighting team from the forefront and saved the lives and property of Tshongdue Town, Paro during a major fire outbreak on 16 Feb 97, which was appreciated by the Bhutan Govt. As C Adm 0 of AF Station Chabua, the officer earned a reputation for providing a fair, transparent and considerate administration resulting in overall satisfaction and high morale of the personnel. His efficient planning and execution of works services resulted in timely induction of Su-30 MKI Sqn at the base. As an ATC Air Force Examiner, he motivated ATC officers and created a record by producing 23 Category 'Pi controllers in two years i.e., 2011 and 2012. This was made possible by initiative taken by the officer in creating a first ever website on ATC on AFNET domain wherein all the information required to earn professional excellence in ATC was uploaded and regularly updated. In his present appointment, he has ensured setting up of very high standards for the conduct of ceremonial events. Successful conduct of National, tri-services and Air Force level ceremonies including two President's Standard/Colour presentation ceremonies in the last one year is testimony of his perseverance and indefatigable drive. His initiative led to approval of various cases on improvement to uniforms such as, scaling of side cap and nylon belt for NCs(E), scaling of new pattern side cap for Airmen, reduction in life of jersey pullover for NCs(E) from 60 months to 36 months, scaling of better quality physical training shoes, etc. His foresight to provide avenues to musicians to achieve higher professional competence led to approval of certification courses from Trinity College of London wherein ten musicians have been detailed to undergo the course in the first phase. | Details : |  Air Commodore Sanjay Agarwal (17420) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) branch on 13 Feb 84. He has held several key appointments, which include Director Engineering Mirage at Air Headquarters, Deputy Command Engineering Officer at Headquarters Central Air Command, Commanding Officer of Communication Training Institute and Senior Engineer (Electronics) at Air Force Station, Gwalior. The officer is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering with a brilliant academic record. He has also served as an instructor at Air Force Technical College, Senior Intelligence Officer in a Wireless Experimental Unit and Senior Engineering Officer at a fighter squadron. The officer was commended by Chief of the Air Staff in 2006. The officer while working in Dte of Eng Mirage ensured smooth induction of ten new aircraft. Cases for indigenisation of critical Testers, upgrade of simulators and second line test benches and repair and overhaul task were vigorously pursued and converted into contracts. While commanding a training institute, it was a great challenge to transform the young recruits into the airwarriors. Serviceability of ARP-3 Pod had depleted to an alarming figure of five by mid 2011. Due to his involvement and liaison with OEM i AA Israel, serviceability of ARP- 3 Pods was enhanced to 13, by end of 2011. He was commended by the Chief of Air Staff in 2010 and by Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command in 1997. As CEO, 4 Wing, with his vast professional experience, in-depth technical acumen and hands on approach, he ensured a remarkably high serviceability. It was primarily because of his out of the box thinking and excellent supervision that the base was ab la to successfully build-up prolonged AOG IL-76 , without any external support. The aircraft was on AOG for six and a half years and was deficient of 1068 items. HAL had quoted Rs 3.2 crores, for the build up of An-32 aircraft which was on AOG for past 08 years. This was objected by IFA at HQ MC. As tasked by Air HQ, AOG buildup of An-32 aircraft, was successfully completed under his able supervision and guidance at base. During the Officer's tenure, IL Avionics Lab had proved to be instrumental towards retrieval of numerous IL-76 / IL-78 fleet critical avionics aggregates. The officer also organised separate teams for extending reception to more than 6500 rescued passengers from J & K during the same period. He personally interacted with officials of NOMA and various Ministries, officials of the Resident Commission of J & K, local suppliers of relief materials, Red Cross, IRCTC, NAFED, Tihar Jail officials, Mother Dairy and some NGOs to plan and coordinate the airlift of loads to meet the task assigned by the IAF His professional acumen and experience were put to test with regard to packing, palletising and loading the cargo in various aircraft including the recently acquired C-17/C-130 aircraft resulting in nil damages to the cargo at the destination. His planning during build up phase and execution of maintenance functions ensured dispatch reliability of 96% for fighters during missions. Under his leadership several innovations have been carried out in the RPA fleet which have resulted in improved efficiency of maintenance practices. | Details : |  Group Captain Abhijit Prabhakar Saraph (21427) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) branch on 29 Sep 1991. He has held various appointments viz Officer in Charge Technical Flight, Senior Technical Officer of fighter squadron and Senior Software Engineer. At present, he is Director Project (Su-30) at Air Headquarters (Vayu Bhavan). He is post graduate in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and has been awarded commendations by Air Officer in Charge, Western AirCommand and Chief of Air Staff for his dedication, sincerity and achievements. As an Engineering Officer in Technical Flight at a forward air base, he was instrumental in providing maintenance support to two Mig-23 BN units during 'Op Safed Sagar'. After getting trained abroad on Su-30 MKI, the officer contributed immensely in establishing the maintenance and avionics testing facilities at Air Force Station, Pune and smooth induction and operationalization of the Su-30 MKI squadron. The officer developed specific to type tools and test equipment like weapon circuit tester and Fly ByWire power supply tester, which resulted in substantial saving of man hours during maintenance. He was instrumental in compiling booklets on FEW system, weapons and radar to facilitate easy comprehension of these intricate systems. The officer's knowledge on software systems was very useful at Software Development Institute. He successfully led several integration projects like integration of Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrument pod, Solid State Digital Video Recording System, 1000 lb bomb, ASTRA missile, BRAHMOS missile, Auxiliary Mission Computer and Pilot project for Operational Data Link, In-house development of these software has resulted in substantial saving of foreign exchange and guaranteed seamless independent integration of the new systems. The officer has utilised his knowledge and experience to discharge his duties as Director Projects (Su-30) exceptionally well. His logical presentations and methodical approach have been very useful in progressing various procurement cases and finalization of the contracts for additional Su-30 MKI aircraft and BRAHMOS missile. His meticulous planning and coordination helped in successful completion of trials of Electronic Warfare Pods and new software version of the aircraft. His efforts to increase synergy between Russians, HAL and IAF have shown results. He has contributed immensely in finalizing requirements for enhancement of operational capability of the aircraft and initiated new integration activities through HAL to sustain operational capability in future. He is the knowledge storehouse on this aircraft and is frequently called upon by other Directorates at AirHQ for expert advice on issues related to Su -30 MKl fleet. | Details : |  Group Captain Ashish Singh, VM (21517) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a pilot in flying branch on 14 Dec 91. Presently, he is commanding Air Force Station Awantipur since 19 Nov 12. The officer is a Cat 't Qualified Flying Instructor Cat 'A' and has flown more than 4000 hrs of flying on various training and fighter aircraft. He has been an Air Force Examiner and commanded a fighter squadron. A Scudder medalist at Defence Services Staff College, he holds an M Phil degree from the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, US Air Force. During Op Megh Rahat, the officer displayed initiative and inspired his team to perform admirably under difficult conditions. Awantipur Base itself was affected by the rains, losing electricity for two weeks, and becoming physically marooned after the nearby Jhelum River broke its embankments. Despite these conditions, the Base not only sustained its own people, including women and children, but also proactively provided rescue and relief to neighbouring areas of South Kashmir. It first assisted nearby villagers from its own resources that included using earth movers to divert water flow. Thereafter, as the Base Commander, he volunteered the services of the Base for inducting and controlling National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The NDRF personnel being unfamiliar with the terrain, local sentiments, and security situation, were combined with IAF Garud Commandoes for boat rescues. These composite teams helped rescue more than 200 villagers in a militancy affected area, braving the swirling waters of the fast flowing Jhelum River, as also, tactfully handling the occasional hostile crowds. Later, helicopters were innovatively utilised to increase the reach of the inflatable boats. Once helicopter rescue and relief commenced, missions were executed with professionalism. Planning ensured optimal matching of resources to wherever and whenever these were needed. Receipt and despatch of relief material was efficiently handled, achieving minimum time loss between sorties. The Base was able to provide more than 47 tons of relief material to nearby marooned villages. It heli-lifted more than 600 people to safety, as also housed them all within the Base. In all, it evacuated more than 1000 people. Additionally, the Rapid Action Medical Team at the Base attended to more than 3000 flood affected patients. | Details : |  Group Captain Vasudevan Rajalekshmi Sanil (21523) was commissioned as a pilot in the flying branch of the Indian Air Force on 14 Dec 1991. He is on the posted strength of HQ SAC since 16 Apr 2012 and is working as Ops I B ever since. Earlier in his service he has worked as the Flight Commander of a fighter squadron and has been the Commanding officer of a MiG-27 Squadron. He has served as a Joint Director at Personnel Officers branch at AirHQ. As the Commanding Officer he ensured quick rebuilding of the operational capability of the squadron by recovering the serviceability of the aircraft from long grounding due to technical reasons. The process involved extensive in-situ checks on the engine and aircraft. With his meticulous approach and foresight, he was able to plan the build-up of all eighteen aircraft of the squadron within a period of just one month. Even though the Ground Support Equipment, manpower and number of servicing bays were limited, the task could be completed safely and quickly solely due to his leadership, involvement and innovative approach. During his tenure as Joint Director Personnel Officers, he played a key role in redesigning the appraisal form for officers. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor with 2930 hours of accident free flying. He is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. In his present tenure, during the last two years, he has been instrumental in smooth conduct of all air operations including the Joint Exercises with the Indian Navy. There has been substantial increase in fighter flying at air bases under this Command HQ. His proactive approach, foresight and deep personal involvement ensure efficient and safe conduct of flying. His involvement and supervision of flying operations at Thanjavur has helped the station to become operational within six months and it now capable of supporting prolonged detachments of all types of aircraft. His operational orientation and conceptualization have effectively integrated the force multipliers like Airborne Warning And Control System and Flight Refueller Aircraft into the operational plans of this Command. He has displayed outstanding resourcefulness for maximizing the utilization of the limited air effort available during various exercises to effectively validate various concepts and contingency plans. He has been instrumental in taking the Maritime Air Operations to the next higher level by integration of effort and understanding between the IAF and IN during the last two years. His planning and conduct of conferences and seminars at Command HQ has been commendable. | Details : |  Group Captain Inderjeet Singh Hanspal (21961) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in administrative branch on 10 Jun 1992 and is presently posted as Chief Administrative Officer at Air Force Station Panagarh. He has held the important appointments of Commanding Officer of Care and Maintenance Unit, Deputy Registrar of Defence Institute of Armament Technology, Security and Works Officer of a premiere Airbase. He is a recipient of commendations by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Officer Commanding in Chief, SWAC, IAF and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff. He was posted to Panagarh Air Field Unit (PAU) when the station was required to prepare infrastructure projects for induction of a strategic Medium lift transport aircraft on a war footing. All the work services had to be planned in a time bound manner for turnkey Project. The station was required to acquire 800 acres of land, adequate electricity and get the runway resurfacing done. He embarked upon the mission with great gusto and with his effective liaison with the State Administration he managed to get NOC approvals for acquisition of 380 acres of privately owned land from the DM. He also managed to enter into Special agreements with local administration for supply of adequate electricity. The existing runway resurfacing has been progressed on a time bound manner. He was made the Task Force Commander for operationalisation of long abandoned airport at Rampurhat for exercise Thal Vayu Prahar 2013. The execution of work services required enormous support from the State Administration as the airport is not easily accessible. With his exceptional liaison skills, proactive approach and positive attitude, he managed to muster full support of the local administration and get the required manpower of Casual Labourers through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranty ACT (MNREGA). This resulted in saving of huge amount of money of the Indian Air Force by synergising the obtained manpower in the execution of various works. Rampurhat has now been activated and is being used by transport aircraft on regular basis. HQ Eastern Air Command decided to start Counter Assault Training at Rampurhat. The existing buildings which were not used for a long time were in a dilapidated state. He got them renovated under his direct supervision and the abandoned airport is now bustling with regular high intensity traininq activities. His commitment and contribution towards improving the facilities for AirWarriors in creating air conditioned messes and guest rooms at PAU has greatly enhanced the morale of the personnel. As C Adm 0, he was tasked to conduct football training camp for civilians of EAC. He ensured proper, regular and rigorous training for the players which has resulted in EAC winning the trophy for two consecutive years i.e. 2012-13 and 2013-14 after a gap of 10 years. Earlier, acknowledging his superior administrative capabilities, he was nominated as the Chief coordinating officer for the presentation of President's Standard at AF station Bareilly. As expected, he performed this task in a commendable manner and his contribution was appreciated by all visiting dignitaries. | Details : | Wing Commander Parthasarathi Ghana (23452) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in the Medical branch on 12 Sep 1995. He is currently posted as the Staff Surgeon to the Chief of the Air Staff since Aug 2009. He has done his Masters in Internal Medicine from Command Hospital, Air Force Bangalore and over the years has persistently endeavoured to add Significant value to the quality of medical support services being provided at various Air Force establishments where he has worked, For his exemplary professionalism and service mindedness, he has been commended by the Chief of the Air Staff in Jan 2011. Right from the initial years of service as a junior medical officer at Air Force Station Hasirnara, Wing Commander Ghana has always displayed exceptional commitment towards providing equitable and quality healthcare to our air warriors and their families. As the lone medical officer posted as the SMO at AF Station Dalhousie, his sound professional knowledge aided by his empathetic attitude was instrumental in providing life saving support in many serious cases which were constrained due to the prevalent inhospitable terrain and inclement weather. He was actively involved in rendering valuable medical advice to the trainees at the Jungle and Snow Survival School and also extended medical support to nearby Army units as well as Civilians thus earning immense goodwill for the Air Force. As a young medical specialist at No. 4 Air Force Hospital, he single handedly took up the project of upgrading the existing medical facilities including establishment of sustainable infrastructure at the medicine department, an Intensive Care Unit for treating critical cases and also initiated the process of establishing non-evasive cardiology facilities. His proactive initiatives directly resulted in a substantial enhancement in patient trust and drastically reduced the patient transfer cases to CH Kolkata. This resulted in saving of valuable man-hours and enhancing the morale of air warriors. He was also actively involved in working out the medical support plans during international bilateral exercises with US Air Force, French Air Force and Royal Singapore Air Force during which. During his tenure at No. 6 Air Force Hospital, he was instrumental in streamlining the procedures regarding processing of long pending ECHS cases which brought widespread relief to a large cross section of empaneled veterans. His untiring efforts towards ensuring quality medical care laced with humane touch were highly appreciated and this also contributed towards No. 6 Air Force Hospital being declared as the "Best Functioning Air Force Hospital" by DGMS (Air). As the Staff Surgeon to the CAS. Wing Commander Ghana has added immense value to this important office by his professional diligence, exemplary humility and a strong sense of selfless service. During this tenure, besides other value additions, he has upgraded non-invasive cardiology facilities which have greatly benefited the Senior Veterans, which also includes the Marshal of the Air Force and retired Chiefs of the Air Staff, who consult him frequently for medical care and advice. He has also pro-actively involved himself with the upgradation of medical infrastructure at SMC, AF Stn New Delhi and has rendered timely medical interventions instrumental in saving precious lives. Wing Commander Ghana is a highly dedicated professional who remains selflessly and steadfastly committed towards administering quality medical care to the air warriors and their families. His vision, fortitude and an exemplary pro-active mindset have always propelled him to persistently work towards improving the medical health care standards in the Indian Air Force and his commitment to this noble cause is indeed outstanding and praiseworthy. He has held the appointment of Squadron Commander Music Training Squadron at Communication Training Institute, Bangalore prior to assuming his present appointment as Director of Music and Principal Conductor for No. 1 Air Force Band, Air Warriors Symphony Orchestra (AWSO) Sqn Ldr Jayachandran was given the difficult task of training the musicians and conduct of the AWSO concerts. Within a short span, Sqn Ldr Jayachandran undertook the responsibility with full zest and produced high quality concerts. He was solely responsible for the excellent standards that the musicians achieved and the success of AWSO concerts. Under his leadership, AWSO has carried out over 40 performances in India and abroad. He was solely responsible for success of AWSO at Germany, France, Italy, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He was also responsible for ensuring that new tunes are performed for concerts every year. In addition to concerts, he also ensured successful participation of musicians of AWSO in various ceremonial commitments, Republic Day Parade and Beating The Retreat ceremony. Sqn Ldr Jayachandran has been instrumental in composing many martial tunes for the IAF which are played during various ceremonial functions. His recent compositions include, "Bravo Warriors", "Flying Star'" "Battle of the Sky" (Quick March), "Stride".(Slow March) and "Republic Day Parade & Beating The Retreat, 2014. He has also composed new background music for Air Force Song, Air Warrior Drill Team & PT display. He has been the Principal Conductor for Beating The Retreat ceremony three times and every time the officer's performance was highly appreciated by the President of India. His composition 'Rejoice in Raisina' won accolades of all the high dignitaries witnessing "beating The Retreat 2014" and found a special mention in the media coverage. The officer has been closely associated with induction and training of musicians in the [AE He is only officer Qualified on music in the IAF who has been at the helm of affairs of the Air Force Bands and success of the AWSO. His advice on all the matters pertaining to the administration of AF Bands and musicians is well appreciated.
