| Details : |  Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Stanton Sharp, DSO. (403476 RNZAF) : In January 1945, this officer led the squadron on a sortie in support of a landing by ground forces at Myebone. The purpose was to lay a smoke screen. Precise timing and great accuracy were essential to success. In spite of considerable anti-aircraft fire, Squadron Leader Sharp led his squadron in to the target with great skill and, as a result of the excellent work performed, the ground forces were enabled to execute a landing under a well-timed and accurately placed smoke screen. During the operation Squadron Leader Sharp's aircraft was hit several times by anti-aircraft fire, but he flew it back to base. This officer has completed many reconnaissances over difficult terrain and in extremely bad weather, with excellent results. He has displayed exceptional skill, great courage and devotion to duty in the execution of his allotted tasks. | ||||

He has successfully completed numerous bombing and low-level attacks within 60 yards of our troops and over mountainous and difficult terrain. Whilst operating over the Arakan front his squadron has been responsible for the destruction of over 200 river craft, one tank, three bridges, six ferries and various other enemy objectives. Squadron Leader Doe has completed his third tour of operational duty and has at all times displayed an unconquerable spirit and great devotion to duty | ||||

| Details : |  Flying Officer Anand Ramdas Pandit while serving with No.1 (RIAF) Squadron during World War II, proved himself to be an accomplished tactical reconnaisance pilot and completed 169 sorties totalling 206 hours in 2 months. His outstanding daring and determination had been the cause of his bringing back very valuable information on most occassions. The photographs secured by him had been highly commended by the Fourteenth Army. His keenness and enthusiasm for operational flying was exemplarary. For the above acts of gallantry he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Additional Citation: Flying Officer Pandit has completed a large number of operational sorties. Many of these have been flown during the monsoon period and over jungle covered mountainous terrain. He has, throughout, displayed the greatest enthusiasm and skill in his work as tactical reconnaissance pilot. His outstanding courage and determination have enabled him to secure valuable information and photographs. | Details : |  During World War II , Flight Lieutnant Minoo Merwan Engineer, while serving with No.3 (RIAF) Squadron had a long period of operational flying. As a Flight Commander, he led many successful attacks in support of the Army, most of the time bombing and strafing in difficult country within a few hundred yards of our own troops. At all times he set an outstanding example of leadership and devotion to duty which played a large role in mainitaing a high standard of morale prevailing in his flight and Squadron. He has a total of 505 hours and 25 minutes of operational flying. For the above acts of gallantry he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Citation from Air Ministry Bulletin 1829.: This officer has a very fine operational record and has participated in attacks against many heavily defended targets. He has also participated in operations in support of the Army. At all times he has shown outstanding ability and skill in leading his flight and steadfast devotion to duty. | ||||

| Details : | In October 1944, an aircraft with overload petrol tank developed an internal glycol leak whilst taking off from an R.A.F. station and crashed near the end of the runway immediately bursting into flames. LAC Purkayasta, who was working in the M.T. yard, saw the aircraft crash and, taking the nearest vehicle drove to the scene of the accident. He was the first person to arrive and found the aircraft enveloped in flames with the pilot, whose clothing and parachute were on fire, lying half out of the cockpit in an unconcious condition. Disregarding the flames this airman endeavoured to drag the pilot clear but found that he was held by his tangled harness. LAC Purkaysta was then obliged to retire before the intense heat. He secured a knife from a native labourer who had arrived on the scene and with this he returned to the rescue. He cut the retaining straps of the equipment , dragged the pilot clear and proceeded to extinguis his burning clothing. Unfortunately the pilot died on the way to hospital. LAC Purkaysta displayed great gallantry and complete disregard for his own safety. | ||||

| Details : | One evening in November 1944, AC 1 Saldanha and a colleague were the first two people to arrive at the scene of an aircraft which had crashed and was burning fiercely. With complete disregard for their personal safety , these two Airmen enteretd the flames and succeeded in recuing one meber of the crew. Although by this time the fire had considerably increased and the heat was intense AC 1 Saldanha went back for the remaining passenger , but was unable to reach him. This Airman showed bravery and gallantry of a very high order in re-entering the burning aircraft and attemting a further rescue after having already sustained burns on his hands and forearms. | ||||
