Squadron Leader Joginder Paul Singh is an outstanding officer of the Transport Training Wing and has to his credit 1,670 instructional hours and 1,308 operational flying hours out of a total of 5.800 hours of accident-free flying. His contribution towards improvement in standards of instructional flying is praiseworthy.

Throughout, Squadron Leader Joginder Paul Singh displayed professional skill and devotion to duty in the best traditions of the Indian Air Force.

Wing Commander Vaidyanathan Krishnamurthy has been serving as the Chief Instructor at a Transport Training Wing since November, 1969. On the 1st March, 1971, he was detailed as Captain of an aircraft which was on a special mission to Jaypor Airfield. About two minutes after passing over the town of Rayaguda, Wing Commander Krishnamurthy saw smoke coming from the cowling of the port engine. Oil was also pouring out of the engine. He immediately reduced power on the affected engine and abandoned the climb. He noticed that the reduction of power also reduced the flow of smoke and oil. He thereupon decided to make an emergency landing at Rayaguda landing strip. Despite the defective engine, the difficult approaches and the short length available for the landing run, he made a safe landing, without any damage to the aircraft and its occupants.

Flight Lieutenant Krishan Adhar Singh Tyagi has been serving with the Transport Training Wing since January, 1969. He has flown more than 3,680 hours, out of which 1,340 hours are on instructional duties. On the 27th February, 1971, he was Captain of an aircraft. During the flight, the port engine failed. The aircraft was fully loaded and even with full power on the starboard engine it gradually lost height. Eventually, when only 4,000 feet above sea level it was able to maintain height but at that height it had to fly in cloud and heavy rain. He diverted to the nearest airfield. In order to do so, he had to fly through bad weather for nearly 45 minutes. At the airport, he carried out a safe landing even though the runway was water-logged due to a heavy downpour. Throughout the emergency, he displayed great presence of mind and excellent airmanship.

Squadron Leader Eruch Shivax Lala has been employed at the Transport Training Wing of the Indian Air Force. He holds the highest Instructor category and the Instrument rating. He has an accident free record of over 4500 hours of flying.

Since the outbreak of emergency this officer had to undertake training of a much larger number of transport pupils. He accepted this difficult task and produced outstanding results.

By his devotion to duty and singlemindedness Sqn. Ldr. Lala set a fine example to his colleagues and motivated other instructors to achieve similar results. He has, therefore, rendered distinguished service of a high order which is in keeping with the best traditions of the Indian Air Force.

Flight Lieutenant Mangatil Karakad Chandrasekhar is qualified flying instructor employed at one of the Transport Training Wings for the past three years. This young officer has a brilliant record of flying hours in short service career and holds the highest transport category and instrument rating.

During the emergency this officer undertook the additional training commitment and displayed sense of dedication, responsibility and preserved for long hours to achieve outstanding results. In addition, he flew on many missions to ALGs airlifting urgently required troops and material both by day and night to forward area.

Throughout this period, Flt. Lt. Chandrasekhar unmindful of his personal safety and physical strain, rendered valuable service which was in keeping with the best traditions of the Air Force.

Flight Lieutenant Jagmohan Singh Virk is a qualified Flying Instructor and holds the highest transport category and instrument rating. During the past one year, through his persistent efforts he has accelerated the output of transport pupils. In addition to the training commitments, this officer at the peak of emergency, transported troops and equipment to N.E.F.A. area.

His cheerful devotion to this arduous duty under great physical and mental stress was a source of inspiration to his colleagues and pupils and an all round fine example on a flying station. He has, therefore, rendered a distinguished service of a high order.

Flight Lieutenant Tapishwar Dutt Vasisht is a qualified flying instructor and has obtained the highest transport category and instrument rating.

This officer was employed in one of the I.A.F. pilot training institutions where he carried out instructional duties with zeal and determination. His sustained efforts resulted in doubling the training output of pilots during the Emergency. To achieve this distinction Flt. Lt. Vasisht flew over 100 instructional hours per month.

In addition to his training commitment, this officer undertook the work of flying troops and equipment to Assam area during the Chinese aggression; a task which he accomplished with great success. The officer displayed a high sense of duty and sincere devotion to his allotted tasks.

Wing Commander Nand Kishore Shankarrao Ambegaonkar was commissioned in the Flying (Pilot) Branch of the Indian Air Force on 30 November 1955. During the period that Wing Commander Ambegaonkar worked as Chief Instructor, the Transport Training Wing underwent a change from Dakota to HS-748 aircraft for training. This transition phase was a difficult period replete with innumerable Flying and maintenance problems. It was entirely due to his relentless endeavours and untiring zeal that the changeover was remarkably smooth and without any serious delay in training schedules.

Wing Commander Ambegaonkar has 8,400 accident-free flying hours to his credit. He holds an 'A-2' instructional category on both Dakota and HS-748 aircraft, and 'A' Master Green Transport rating. It was under his personal guidance and control that the training schedules were recast and the entire training machinery streamlined, which helped a great deal in elevating the standard of training.

Throughout, Wing Commander Nand Kishore Shankarrao Ambegaonkar has displayed outstanding professional skill, high organizing ability, devotion to duty and zeal and capacity for sustained hard work. He has thus rendered distinguished service of a high order. The President is pleased to award him Vishisht Seva Medal.

Squadron Leader Raghu Nath Dass was commissioned in Indian Air Force in the year 1963, and from that time held many vital assignments with distinction in missile and photo units.

The officer was posted to the Transport Training Wing of the Air Force in May 77 for the duties of Senior Electrical officer. Within a short time of his arrival he organized fully established electrical and instrument work shop which could effectively cater for the 1st and 2nd line requirements of the three different types of aircraft serviced at the Wing. These facilities drastically reduced the down time of the aircraft for periodic inspections and snag rectification.

He organized a fully equipped R&SS with qualified men and supporting equipment capable of periodic inspections and also the intricate and detailed servicing like Check II A and Check II B of HS-748 aircraft. The result of his efforts are the proud figures of 43 and 47 Check As, and 11 and 12 Check I inspections in the year 1978 and 1979 respectively which stand out as an exceptional performance and formed the backbone for the fast turn round of aircraft and consequent availability to meet the flying task.

Due to the enhanced commitment of training and transport support role of HS-748 aircraft, number of aircraft were falling due for the elaborate and stringent Check II A and Check II B servicings during 1979 for which aircraft needs to be ferried out to a Base Repair Depot. This task had to be met with the resources of the station itself as the overhaul line of a Base Repair Depot Air Force was full to induct any further aircraft. With sound technical knowledge, professional skill of a high order, creative mind and sound organizing ability, the officer achieved the near impossible results of completing 3 Check II A and 2 Check II B inspections in the year 1979-80. The high rate of serviceability of aircraft, exceptional flight safety record and nil accident rate achieved by the station in the year 1979 give a befitting tribute to the flight safety consciousness and stringent quality control technique adopted by this officer in aircraft servicing.

Throughout Squadron Leader Raghu Nath Dass displayed determination, zeal, tenacity and devotion to duty. He has thus rendered distinguished service of a high order and for this Rashtrapati is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to him.
