Details : | Squadron Leader Ajit Kumar Choudhury has been serving with Fighter Training Wing since November 1965. As a Flying Instructor, he has flown a total of 2,000 hours. On 16th May 1968, he was authorised to carry out general flying and aerobatics sorties on a Vampire aircraft with a pupil pilot. At the end of the sortie after carrying out a roller take off, he heard a loud thud and noticed the R.P.M. winding down with the complete loss of power in the engine. The aircraft had gained only 300 feet of height and was flying at 170 knots. Squadron Leader Choudhury took immediate action to gain height. With exceptional skill and cool courage, he landed the aircraft safely. | ||||

Details : | Wing Commander Walter Henry Marshall has been on the strength of Fighter Training Wing since August 1970 and has been holding the appointments of Instructor and Officer-inCharge of Flying. In these capacities he has displayed a very high degree of organising ability and exemplary devotion to duty. He has succeeded in improving the quality of training at Fighter Training Wing. He has been instrumental to a large extent in revising both the Ground and Training Flying Syllabi at the Fighter Training and has taken particular interest in improving the training aids on the Station. He displayed exceptional ability in organising and controlling fly-pasts at various places with precision. During India-Pakistan conflict of December, 1971, he commanded a fighter squadron in the Western Sector. He visited all the nearby bases and prepared contingency plans meticulously. In record time, working round he brought his pilots, who had limited flying during the night to fully operational status for night flying. He was also responsible for making modifications to the available aircraft, which proved very useful during the conflict. Throughout, Wing Commander Walter Henry Marshall displayed courage, leadership and devotion to duty. | ||||

Details : | Squadron Leader John Frederick Josephs was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in January, 1954. He has served as Flight Commander from October, 1963 to August, 1965 and as Chief Flying Instructor from December, 1969 to February, 1974 at Fighter Training Wing. He has flown a total of 3810 hours, of which 2300 hours are accident-free on Vampire aircraft. During his tenure at the Fighter Training Wing, he was responsible for the compilation, revision and printing of Briefing Notes, Vampire Emergency Handbook and Syllabus. He has attained A-2 Instructor Category and Master Green Instrument Rating. He has maintained very high professional standard and deep understanding of the pupilĂ‚Âinstructor relationship, and has been a source of inspiration to the younger Flying Instructors. Throughout, Squadron Leader John Frederick Josephs displayed courage, professional skill and exceptional devotion to duty. | ||||

Details : | Flight Lieutenant Sukrutaraj Jayandra was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in April, 1964. He has been engaged on instructional duties at Fighter Training Wing since April, 1972. On 26th February, 1973, while he was carrying out a dual instructional sortie of aerobatics in a Vampire aircraft the engine of the aircraft caught fire. He managed to extinguish the fire but in this process had perforce to shut down the engine. By accurate judgment and great professional skill, he successfully force-landed at base thereby saved a valuable aircraft. Throughout, Flight lieutenant Sukrutaraj Jayandra displayed courage, professional skill and exceptional devotion to duty. | ||||
