| Details : | Squadron Leader Suresh Haribhav Apte has been engaged in test flying duties at HAL Bangalore complex since November, 1976. On the 18th May, 1984, Sqn Ldr Apte experienced an engine failure on his HPT-32 prototype aircraft due to fuel supply problems. He was at a height of 1000 feet which was barely sufficient to make a forced landing at the airfield. However, with great skill and cool courage he made a 90 degree turn at 50 ft. altitude and made a perfect landing on the runway. Squadron Leader Suresh Haribhav Apte thus displayed undaunted courage, determination and devotion to duty of a high order. | |||
