Details :

Gp Capt Shyamal Kumar Lahiri was commissioned in the Medical Corps in Mar 64. His unlimited capacity for hard work made him an automatic choice to take over command of an Air Force Hospital (AFH) in 1981. This AFH, located in a politically sensitive state, was beset with a host of union instigated manmanagement problems. Through his involvement, he was able to turn the situation around in a very short time and transformed the AFH into one of the finest hospitals of the IAF. A fact which was repeatedly acknowledged by the sister services and by the Royal Bhutan Army. In 1981, he was specially selected to take up his present responsibility of Deputy Director General Medical Services (Personnel) (DDGMS-P) at Air Headquarters. It is to his credit that during his entire tenure as DDGMS (P), there has never been even a single representation by the entire medical fraternity.

For distinguished service of high order, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Gp Capt Shyamal Kumar Lahiri.
