Details : | During the operations against Pakistan in December, 1971, Flight Lieutenant Shivinder Singh Bains as a pilot in a Fighter Squadron, flew fourteen operational missions in Poonch, Uri and Kargil Sectors in close support of our ground forces. He led missions deep into the enemy territory in the face of heavy enemy ground opposition. He destroyed two enemy conveys of trucks in the Haji Pir Bulge. In one of these missions in the Poonch Sector, his aircraft was hit by ground fire but he managed to get the aircraft back to base safely. Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Shivinder Singh Bains displayed gallantry, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order. | |||
