Details : Group Captain Jitendra Dinkar Masurkar (25082- T) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Flying branch of Indian Air Force on 20 June 98. A category 'A' Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI), he has over 2600 hours of accident free flying on different types of Fighters. Group Captain Masurkar has been commanding a MiG-21 Squadron since 15 June 2015. The officer was not experienced on the aircraft when he took over Command, notwithstanding that, he not only has flown extensively during his command but has led the Squadron from the front on all aspects. Under his leadership, the Squadron won four trophies in the Command Air to Ground gunnery competition, which was the maximum by anyone squadron. Here also, the officer himself was part of two of the winning teams. Achieving this feat on a legacy platform, while competing with highly advanced aircraft, with state of art avionic and systems, is no mean achievement. The officer's active involvement, constant guidance and motivational leadership ensured that the squadron excelled in all its tasking and inspections, doing well in both Aircrew Examining Board (AEB) and Director of Air Staff Inspection (DASI) inspections. During his tenure, the fleet went through a major challenge due non-availability of aeroengines that resulted in a significant backlog of large number of engine and fuel pump changes. All this had an adverse effect on platform availability. However, the officer motivated his team and through exhaustive planning and dedicated effort, not only was the serviceability addressed in a sustainable way but during the entire period, the squadron met all its operational tasking including status upgradation of the aircrew. He is an ardent sportsman who was instrumental in the formation of a cycling club in the Station. The air warriors of the club, led by the officer undertook over 360 km cycling expedition. For exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Devotion to duty) to Group Captain Jitendra Dinkar Masurkar.
