Ron was born in 1922. He matriculated to Cambridge University to study Engineering but was unable to attend due to the start of World War II. Instead, he enlisted in the Royal Indian Air Force and saw out the war. In 1947, with India's independance looming he migrated to Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force in March 1949. He met Ellayne Rankin and won her heart at a dance at the Lady Denman Hall, Manuka, Canberra christmas 1949 and they married in July 1950. Six weeks later he shipped out to Japan to fly combat missions over Korea. He was decorated for his service, being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the United States Air Medal. He endured a career in the Commonwealth Public Service before retiring in 1984 and passed away in 2012. |
