Squadron Leader Pramod Kumar Jena (23922) Administration is on the posted strength of 410 Air Force Station since 21 Apr 2003. He has been performing the duties of Director of Music and Principal Conductor for 1 AF Band Air Warriors Symphony Orchestra (AWSO) since then.

Sqn Ldr Jena was given the difficult task of training the musicians and starting the AWSO concerts. The task was new and had never been undertaken by the Indian Air Force. Within a short span, Sqn Ldr Jena undertook the responsibility with full zest and produced high quality concerts. He was solely responsible for the excellent standards that the musicians achieved and the success of AWSO concerts. Under his leadership the AWSO carried out over 40 performances in India and abroad. He was solely responsible for success of AWSO at Bangkok in Thailand and Finland. He was also responsible for ensuring that new tunes are performed for concerts every year.

In addition to concerts he also ensured successful participation of musicians of AWSO in various ceremonial commitments, Republic Day Parade and Beating Retreat. Sqn Ldr Jena has composed many martial tunes for the IAF which are played during various ceremonial functions. He has also conducted Beating Retreat many a times; especially this year's Beating Retreat conducted by the officer was highly appreciated by the President of India. The officer successfully undertook the task of producing quality Compact Discs (CDs) of AWSO in a limited time. The audio CDs have been very well appreciated.

The officer besides raising the AWSO, was also responsible for induction and training of musicians during his tenure at Air Headquarter (Vayu Bhavan) and has been giving regular advice on all the matters pertaining to the AF Bands and musicians. He is the only officer qualified in music in the Indian Air Force who has been at the helm of affairs of the AF Bands and success of AWSO.

For his pioneering innovative work, excellent contribution to the music in the IAF and distinguished service of high order, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Squadron Leader Pramod Kumar Jena.
