Details : Group Captain Manu Midha (22940) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot in the flying branch on 18 Jun 1994. He is a Cat A Qualified Flying Instructor, Instrument Rating Instructor & Examiner and has flown over 3100 hours. He has also served as a Directing Staff at Flying Instructors' School and as an Air Force Examiner with Aircrew Examining Board. He has been awarded a Chief of Air staff Commendation on 08 Oct2008. He commanded 51 Squadron from 20 Jun 11 to 16 Jun 13. Under his command, the Squadron flew over 4350 sorties without any Human Error accident or incident. He led from the front and himself flew 430 sorties. Due to his immaculate planning and continued operational focus, the squadron aircrew maintained their currency on all operational roles at all times. Due to his personal involvement. a high serviceability of aircraft and mission critical systems was maintained. Under his command, the Squadron performed well during the inspection visits by the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection and Aircrew Examining Board and also during the various exercises. He himself ensured that at all times operations were conducted with high regard to aerospace safety. He followed an interactive style of leadership and encouraged his people to find solutions to issues through innovative thinking and improvisation. His unconditional involvement, devotion to duty. leadership qualities and the highest norms of interpersonal relations ensured a positive and professional work environment. Through his operational focus and responsive administration, he kept the Sqn operationally prepared while keeping the morale extremely high despite trying circumstances. Gp Capt Midha has displayed exceptional motivation, professional skills and unparalleled leadership in discharging his duties. He has always placed Service-before-self and relentlessly strived for organisational growth. These qualities reflected in the performance of the Squadron and it was adjudged the Best Fighter Sqn for 2012-2013 in Western Air Command. For exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Devotion to Duty) to Group Captain Manu Midha.
