Details : Group Captain Partho Pratim Modak (21866) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a pilot in the flying branch on 13 Jun 1992 and is presently posted as Station Commander of Air Force Station Panagarh. He has over 1300 hrs of Jaguar and Hunter flying and is a Qualified RPA Instructor with over 2000 hrs of flying. He has held several field and staff appointments. These include Flight Commander and Commanding Officer of a RPA squadron, deputation to NTRO and Director NBC. As Station Commander, his professional expertise, dynamism and inspiring leadership have resulted in the Station working as an efficient, motivated and highly productive team. His initiative and foresight have contributed immensely towards the meticulous analysis of the gaps in conceptualising and developing the new base at Panagarh. He was posted to Panagarh when the station was under upgradation to a major flying Wing with proposed induction of a strategic Medium Lift Transport aircraft round the corner. To support flying operations the first achievement was the successful completion of runway resurfacing on 04 Aug 15 ensuring quality works. The officer initiated other work services to improve the working and living environment. Based on the future basing plan the officer took the initiative to process the case for acquisition of 800 acres land (380 private and 420 forest land). Due to his personal involvement the case for transfer of 167 acres of equivalent land of Andal to Air Force Station Panagarh received approval of Gol. The officer has also been instrumental in operationalisation of a long abandoned airfield at Rampurhat which is now being used by rotary and fixed wing ac. For exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Devotion to Duty) to Group Captain Partho Pratim Modak.
