Details : Wing Commander Bhupender Singh Kanwar (21583) flying (Navigator)was commissioned on 14 Dec 91 in the Indian Air Force as Navigator in Flying branch. He has held the appointments of Command Examiner, Aircrew Examination Board Examiner, Dte of Air Staff Inspection Inspector and Chief Navigation Instructor, Navigation Training School (NTS). He is commanding NTS since 11 May 09. He is a Qualified Navigational Instructor and holds the highest professional categories of RTR 'Adv/A' on HS-748, An-32 and IL -76 ac and also holds Instructional Cat 'A'. He has undergone the Air Staff Course at Defence Services Staff College Wellington. He has been commended by AOC-in-C WAC in 1996 and CAS in 2010. Wing Commander Kanwar has displayed exceptional vision, tremendous initiative and outstanding commitment in modernising the Navigation training at NTS. On his own initiative he has developed a website which hosts one of the best aviation related materials in the IAF. He has transformed the training at NTS into a web enabled network centric training. Under his guidance the training precis and syllabus of all the subjects taught at NTS have been revised. The operationalisation of the modern NTS building replete with state of the art training infrastructure is testimony to his outstanding dedication, phenomenal foresight and hands on leadership. This building is an ideal role model for other ITEs of the IAF. He has provided the inspiration and guidance for development of futuristic Nav Simulator as well. He has written many quality service papers for the introduction of the 'Combat System Officer Concept', 'Mission Commander Concept' and 'Creation of Centre of GIS Excellence at Begumpet' which when implemented would be instrumental in bringing extraordinary changes in the IAF. His outstanding management skills and infectious zeal have played a significant role in improving the quality of life of all the air warriors of NTS. This has been brought about through major infrastructure development projects like special repairs to NTS hangar, and improvements to the Airmen Mess. As PMC Officers' Mess he has provided a major facelift by creating sports infrastructure like lawn tennis court etc. and improved the quality of life of the living in officers. He has been extensively involved in the modernisation and extension of CSD complex at the station. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Wing Commander Bhupender Singh Kanwar.
