Details : Group Captain Kamal Sharma (21350-A) Lgs was commissioned in the Logistics Branch of Indian Air Force on 15 Jun 91. He is presently posted to Air HO as Director IMMOLS Air HO since 01 Apr 2015. The officer implemented the IMMOLS upgrade project across IAF between 2015-16. It was in ambitious and multi-front technology upgrade of Hardware, OS, SOL-Server and topology virtually renewing it for the next decade. The entire project (to be implemented in two steps across 159 locations) was executed ahead of planned timelines. Once the upgrade was accomplished, the officer took-up another major project, of re-utilising the old out-going servers as Disaster Recovery (DR) servers. It was an innovative solution, that would make the IMMOLS backbone more robust, providing real-time redundancy. Despite challenges of old hardware, the project was implemented between 2016-17. While the upgrade to Dell servers was contract worth 45 crores (approx.), the project of configuring and commissioning DR Servers across IAF was managed entirely out of existing resources and Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs), with no additional cost to the exchequer, resulting in substantial savings for IAF. A Supply Chain manaqernent (SCM) consultancy initiative was put in place to benchmark the IMMOLS application processes with the industry best practices. Tech Documentation, User manuals and Design literature was updated and formalised for reference. Massive master and process data purification efforts were launched bringing down item GIG from 14.51acs to 7.25Iacs. Under his leadership, a lot of innovative solutions were developed like Central lMMOLS Simulator, Image Server, Digital Library, specific utility dashboards etc. A quarterly news letter was brought out to enhance IMMOLS awareness. Currently, migration of Non-Lgs heads on IMMOLS and development of a specific application for Explosives are ready for rollout. He had been instrumental in imparting a forward looking approach to position IMMOLS at the forefront of emerging technologies with initiatives like incorporating Visual Analytics (Tableau Software), laying out a roadmap/ initiating Data Archiving the Data warehousing solution with Analytics engine to provide Decision Support System (DSS) for IAF and having application alerts on AFNET main and AFCEL handsets. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Kamal Sharma.
