Details : | Group Captain Sathyamourthy Ramanathan (21078) Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an Engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) branch on 11 Mar 1991. He has held the appointments of Commanding Officer of Communication Signals Units, Instructor at a TEITRA School, Senior Technical Officer of IL-76 aircraft Squadron and as Director at Directorate of Maintenance Inspection at DG(I&S) Branch, Air HQ. For his consistent excellent performance, he was commended by AOC-in-C, WAC·in January 1996 and by CAS in January 1998. Presently he is posted as Station Commander at Air Force Station, Bhowali since 13 Feb 2012. During the International Red Flag Exercise held in Aug 2008 at USA, the Officer has efficiently led the techno-Iogistic team of IL-76 aircraft and achieved 100% aircraft serviceability on the foreign land. This has immensely contributed in successful and time bound staging of SU-30 MKI fighter aircraft to USA and back. During his tenure as Maintenance Inspector in DG(I&S) Branch, he has brought out many critical observations and conceptual recommendations having implications at Air Force level. He recommended surrendering of superfluous BSNL leased circuits resulting in saving of Rs 4 crores rental per annum to IAF Similarly, his recommendation on review of War Reserve Stocking Policy has resulted in enhanced user satisfaction besides saving to the exchequer. Gp Capt S Ramanathan as Station Commander of AFS Bhowali, which is an isolated and high altitude Unit, has lead the team cohesively and efficiently keeping the morale of the personnel placed below always high. He has brought in many major infrastructural developments in very short time not only to enhance the operational potential of the Unit but also towards making available the basic welfare and recreational amenities for the personnel posted at this remotely located hilly Unit. With his leadership, the Unit has won many prestigious Trophies in year 2012. During the major road blocks caused due to landslides in monsoon and snowfall in winter, the officer has led the team in quick restoration of road link to the Ops site thus enabling the continued supply of essential ration and medicine. With his innovative ideas, he has implemented many modifications in vehicle maintenance, logistic storage conditions and security apparatus for enhanced user satisfaction and manifold operational efficiency.
