Details : Group Captain Sandeep Kishore Satpathy (20387) Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) has been on the posted strength of Assistant Chief of the Air Staff [Signals (Air) and Information Technology] sub branch at air HQs since 05 Mar 07 and has been functioning as Joint Director (AFNET) [JD (AFNET)j. The officer after commissioning has earlier served with distinction in the ADGES Communication units, Base Repair Depot, TETTRA School, and as Senior Technical Officer of an Aerostat Unit. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and Defence Services Staff College His demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot critical issues coupled with his solutions oriented professionalism was manifest in several projects in the past. He has been commended by the CAS in 1996 and by AOC-in-C in 1996 and 2000. The officer has been a pivotal force in the conceptualization, planning, design and implementation of the prestigious AFNET project which was dedicated to the nation by Hon'ble RM in a glittering ceremony on 14 Sep 10. The time bound operationalisation of the extremely complex AFNET project in a record time at 160 locations of the IAF, while similar endeavors by other sister services are yet to even progress to the RFP stage is a testimony to the harmonious leadership, synergetic approach, intuition and visionary foresight. As JD AFNET the officer was deeply involved at various stages in formulation of policies on operation, maintenance and Management of AFNET. The enormous task also included migration of various existing network systems like IMMOLS, AWACS, IACCS, AHOC/ CHOC, TADIOS, ICATS, ACATS and design of interface for new weapon systems like MRSAM, AKASH. With implementation of AFNET project Air Defence Hotlines of all IAF Formations were successfully migrated to AFNET . Group Captain Sandeep Satpathy has also contributed towards formulation of SOPs on implementing the migration of PCs and Servers from Legacy Network to AFNET. During the implementation of AFNET project he has established the Telepresence system between Air HQ (VB) and HQ TC. Group Captain Sandeep Satpathy has efficiently handled the various tasks related to operationalistion of AFNET like planning the formation of Data Center Management Unit to manage all the Data Services across IAF, Integration of DMRR and planning their Op deployment in consultation with command HQs. He was closely associated with the planning, executing various activities during AFNET Dedication Ceremony to the nation jointly by Defence Minister and Min of Com & IT during Sep 10. Apart for contributing immensely to the AFNET Project he has been associated with the planning and successful execution of first Air Force Level Communication Exercise Sanchar Kranti - 2010. He was also the Member Secretary in the Study Team on the exhaustive 'Formation of IT Branch / Trade in lAF'. He has also initiated the revision of policy pages of all AFNET units centrally at Air HQs For his outstanding professional acumen, exemplary dynamism, distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Sandeep Kishore Satpathy.
