Details : Air Commodore Debashish Vedajna (19539) was commissioned in the Indian Air force as a pilot in flying branch on 11 Jun 1988. During his career he has flown about 2700 hours on MIG-21, Jaguar and Hunter aircraft. The officer has held many important operational assignments including Chief Operation Officer of a premier Jaguar Base, Command Intelligence Officer of an Operational Command and Commanding Officer of the first Pechora Squadron of the IAF. He has served as the Team Leader (IAF) of Indian MRSAM Project Team (IMPT) in Israel for joint design and development of the MRSAM system and before assuming his present appointment was on deputation to DRDO for monitoring a strategic project. He took over command of an Air Force Station in Sep 2015. During his earlier tenure the officer was especially selected to head the MRSAM project at Israel in which he gave extremely valuable inputs to enhance the operational utilization of the system including redesigning of the display maps and key algorithms. With his professional approach and analytical mind he helped not only in giving correct direction to the entire project but helped in resolving the issues between Air HQ, DRDO and Israeli Aerospace Industries. Air Cmde Vedajna assumed the command of the Air Force Station with major responsibility to conduct IAF level Iron Fist 2016. The officer immediately took charge of the situation and got involved with understanding the requirement of the mega event. With his foresight and meticulous planning he led the preparations for Iron Fist 2016 with full gusto and with a keen eye for detail ensured that even small situations were anticipated well in time and corrective actions taken towards a flaw less conduct of Iron Fist 2016. The officer with his guidance and leadership qualities motivated the team, and set a new benchmark for conduct of such a large event. It is because of his involvement and foresight that Iron Fist 2016 was conducted in a befitting manner and was appreciated at all levels. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Air Commodore Debashish Vedajna.
