Details : Group Captain Bindu Ahluwalia (18691) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a helicopter pilot in the flying branch on 06 Dec 86. He has flown over 3250 hours of accident free flying mostly in North East and Siachen Glacier on Cheetah/Chetak participated in Op Rhino, Op Bajrang, Op Meghdoot and Op Parakram. His staff and field appointments include Senior Officer Operations (Air) at a Tactical Air Combat Centre, Commanding Officer of Pechora Missile Squadron, Command Examiner for Pechora Systems and presently he is the Station Commander of a forward airbase. He is an MBA. Defence Services Staff College graduate and holds the coveted 'AYE' category in Pechora. He has been commended by the Chief of Air Staff in Oct 2009. Gp Capt Ahluwalia's virtuosity on surface to air guided weapon (SAGW) systems has helped in the modification of training pattern to suit the present day requirement. During his command of the Pechora Squadron, not only was it adjudged the best SAGW unit of an operational Command but his overall contribution to the Air Defence (AD) Stream of the 1AF was also specifically praised by the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection (DASI). Moreover due to his indepth knowledge of AD system he was chosen for evaluation and user trials of the Akash Missile System and as a team leader for an International Defence Cooperation visit to Greece. Within one year of taking over command of the northernmost airfield of IAF, he has through his proactive and visionary approach, he has enhanced the ambit of the base in all three facets of Operations, Maintenance and Administration. As a result, the base is now ready to undertake all its assigned operational roles. His effective liaison and persistent efforts have resulted in improving communication facilities of this remote station, modernisation of techno-logistics aspects and finalisation of long pending land acquisition perceptible improvement in the ambience. working environment, living conditions and morale of the personnel, resulting in the station g ad being judged the best FBSU in WAC. aced to award Vishisht For distinguished service of high order. Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Bindu Ahluwalia.
