Details : Group Captain Bhaskar Nandi (18188) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as medical officer on 26 Dec 1985. He is a graduate and postgraduate in Medicine from AFMC Pune and did his doctorate (OM) in Gastroenterology from AIIMS, New Delhi. In his 28 years of service, he has served with distinction as medical specialist in various Air Force hospitals and in IATT, Botswana on deputation. He has held the prestigious appointments of Head, Dept of Gastroenterology, Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi, and Director, Armed Forces Organ Donation and Retrieval Authority (AORTA). Presently, he is the Senior Adviser (Medicine & Gastroenterology) at Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore. He has been commended by AOC-in-C, HQ TC, IAF in 2004 and 2007 and by VCOAS in 2011. This specialist believes in service before self and has amply displayed this quality at all times. He is and outstanding clinician and gastroenterologist with exemplary professional knowledge and endoscopy skills. He is adept at performing highly technical and advanced pancreatico-biliary endoscopy procedures, that has proved to be life-saving to many a critical patient. He has received much appreciation for formulating protocols for treatment of HIV / AIDS patient during his tenure in Botswana. He is one of the pioneers in Transplant Hepatology in Armed Forces and has been associated with the Liver Transplant Program since its inception. He ran the organ donation program of Armed Forces that saw 42 multiple organ donations taking" place and successfully increased awareness on organ donation within Armed Forces. He is a member of the National Task Force on Hepatitis-B Fatty Liver Disease and is frequently invited by reputed medical institutes in the country to deliver talks and share his experience. He has steered the Gastroenterology centre in CHAF Bangalore to a centre of excellence. He will be conducting the first ever Gastroenterology Technician course to be held in an Air Force hospital. His contribution in publication of the highly acclaimed book on clinical medicine, 'medical Clinics of CHAFB' organizing health camps for hepatitis and promotion of organ donation has greatly enhanced the prestige of this hospital and the organization. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Bhaskar Nandi.
