Details : Group Captain Vivek Rajhans (17620) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) branch on 20 Aug 84. Presently, he is working as Director at Directorate of Maintenance Inspection (DMI) since 10 May 10. Prior to the present appointment, Gp Capt Rajhans has worked at various Fighter Squadrons/Bases, Base Repair Depot (BRD), Mig-27/29 TETTRA, Command HQ and Air HQ. While serving at 4 BRD, the officer used his initiative and ingenuity to recover R-29 engine test bed within one month, which was completely burnt in an accident, and initiated automation process to reduce testing duration. As Chief Engineering officer (CEO) of a Flying Station, he initiated and executed underground communication cable project and improvement of Communication/ Navigational Aids. He was commended by the Chief of Air Staff in Oct 1998 for his contribution towards this project. In his second tenure as CEO, this time of a major Flying station, he took effective measures and exercised close supervision to ensure nil accidents/ incidents due to Human Error (Servicing). In his present appointment as Director in DMI, he has played a decisive role in successful planning and conduct of Maintenance Inspections and Quality Audits of various aircraft fleets. Quality Audits of R-29 Aero-engines, Mig-27, Hawk, Jaguar, Mirage, SU-30 aircraft fleets and Mi Series helicopters conducted by DMI under his supervision brought forward many critical Aerospace Safety as well as maintenance quality related issues. He effectively utilized his professional knowledge to resolve critical issues like sluggish brakes, wing fence cracks, lateral displacement of tail plane, fuel leaks and engine casing modification for air transportation of Hawk aircraft. Jaguar audit carried out under his supervision helped in addressing crucial issues like pin-hole inspections on first stage compressor blades, flexane coating peeling-off, implementation of modification for reducing stress concentration on main planes and fuel leaks. His flagging of issues like gap in provisioning, improper environmental conditions, large number of concessions lack of updates on publication, etc during Mirage Maintenance Audit resulted in series of corrective measures. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Vivek Rajhans.
