Details : Wing Commander Thotten Rajeevan (17168) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned on 28 Mar 1983 in the Flying Branch of Ihe 1AF. In 22 years of distinguished service, he has held several important appointments that include Flight Commander of fighter Squadron (Sqn), Commanding Officer (CO) of Mig Operational Flying Training Unit (A), SFSO of fighter Base and CO of premier fighter Sqn. He was commended by AOC-in-C South Western Air Command(SWAC) in 1995.Wg Cdr Rajeevan was appointed the CO of premier fighter Sqn on 09 Jun 2003. A highly experienced fighter pilot Wg Cdr T Rajeevan has flown the Mig 21s (T-77 & T-75) and Mig 29 ac and has nearly 3100, accident/incident free, flying hours to his credit.Under Wg Cdr Rajeevan's command the Sqn saw a sea change in the operational attitude and outlook. Till recently the Sqn had its pilots Fully Ops since Dec 2003. had carried out the maximum number of parallel taxi track and DACT operations and had the maximum number of its pilots sea qualified and Pilot TRS trained. All this inspite of low aircraft availability on the flight line, an aspect, which was beyond unit's control.The Sqn under Wg Cdr Rajeevan's inspired and able command has been adjudged the best fighter Sqn of SWAC in 2003 and 2004, The Sqn apart from undertaking all its assigned flying and other tasks in a highly professional manner also represented SWAC in Ex-VAYUSPARDHA 2003 with Wing Commander Rajeevan at the helm of affairs.The Sqn under Wing Commander Rajeevan performed extremely well during the Director Air Staff Inspection (DASI) in Feb 2005 and Aircrew Examining Board standardization visit in Mar 2005. In DASI the Sqn was adjudged AVERAGE PLUS in all aspects except in Operations (Ground) where in it was adjudged ABOVE AVERAGE. In AEB visit the overall performance of the Sqn was AVERAGE PLUS to ABOVE AVERAGE.A very active team member and sports loving Officer, Wg Cdr Rajeevan with his personal involvement also saw his Sqn winning all the major inter-unit sports and the championship in 2004.For unflinching devotion to duty and n very high quality of military leadership on all fronts, The Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Wing Commander Thotten Rajeevan.
