Details : Air Commodore Soumitra Kumar Dey (17030) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in the administrative branch on 29 Dec 82. In his 29 years of distinguished service, he has held many important appointments including Chief Administrative Officer (CAdm 0) of a flying station, Assistant Provost Marshal, Deputy Provost Marshal (Air), SO to the VCAS and JD Works at Air HQ etc. At present the officer is posted as Principal Director Org (Ceremonials) at Air HQ An alumnus of DSSC, Air Cmde SK Dey has been commended by the CAS, AOC-in-C and GOC-in-C. The officer with his strive for excellence and ability to conceptualize out of box solutions has contributed immensely towards organizational objective. Inception of Air Force Dog Training School at 56 ASP as Dy PM (Air), meticulous planning, coordination and timely completion of works services of HQ WAC as JD Works, completion of many projects to improve the quality of life of air warriors as C Adm 0 are indications of his professional acumen. The officer as the leader of the Indian Project Management Team for resurfacing of runway at Jaffna, continued to persist with the pace of work despite severe adverse conditions and artillery attacks on the airfield on regular basis. In his present appointment he has ensured setting up of very high standards for ceremonial events, Air Force Band, Air Warrior Drill Team, Ceremonial Contingent, successful conduct of National, Service and Air Force level ceremonies including six President's standard presentation ceremony in last three years is testimony of his perseverance and indefatigable drive. His foresight, hard work and dedication greatly contributed in Air Force winning the Best Marching Contingent award in RD Parade consecutively for two years in 2011 and 2012, a feat never achieved before by any of the Armed Forces contingents. Cases of appointment of Commodore Commandants, regulating expenditure on ceremonial parades from Public Fund to save welfare fund, work related to new lAF on dresses have been pursued with due diligence and in short despite various constraints. The Air Officer also discharged the additional responsibility of PD Org (Adm) for almost a year, as PD Org (Adm) his main contribution has been towards ensuring 100% modernization of office equipment at all AF Stns/Units, providing vision to the planning and execution of the VRF air conditioning work, upgradation of electrical infrastructure and complete renovation of main foyer at Vayu Bhavan. For his distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Air Commodore Soumitra Kumar Dey.
