Details : Group Captain Shashank Kulkarni (16929) Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) was commissioned on 09 Aug 1982 in the Engineering Branch of IAF. He has held various important appointments including Commanding Officer of Signals Unit, Chief Technical Officer at 415 Air Force Station. He is currently, Station Commander at Air Force Communication Centre (AFCC). He has earlier been commended by CAS and AOC-in-C, WAC. While working at 717 SU his initiative helped introduce flexibility in communication arrangements at 34 Wing enabling EPAX and ORP communication on AFSR. As a trained airborne Electronic Intelligence operator with an operational Flight, he evolved new route patterns to improve Electronic Emission Policy performance and participated in trials with Flycatcher radar of Army. His sorties led to revision of EEP for Mirage-2000, MiG -29 and Jaguar aircraft. During his tenures in Signal Units, the officer had improved the efficiency and reliability of air conditioning plants by changing design of ducts and return air paths. As Stn Cdr, Air Force Station Borgad the officer implemented innovative projects like rainwater harvesting to collect 1.5 lakh liters of water to partially fulfilling outstanding water requirements at technical area at hilltop. He also introduced remedial measures to avoid landslides on hilly road to technical area. The officer also initiated modification of 10 KVA UPS to address mismatch between design deficiency and requirements of IAF, which resulted in reducing number of link losses in tropo units. As Stn Cdr, Air Force Communication Centre, he has initiated the process of re-look at High Frequency monitoring role of the unit, standby communication for Joint Control and Analysis Centre and strong eagerness to ensure smooth transfer and conjoint usage of legacy communication systems and AFNET. His persistent efforts have helped nurture the fledgling Air Force Station to help meet assigned role more professionally. For displaying very high degree of initiative, distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Shashank Kulkarni.
