Group Captain Randhir Pratap (13146) F (P) was commissioned as a Fighter Pilot in the Flying Branch on 24 Jan 72. He has held the appointments of Station Commander, Air Force Station Memora, and Commanding Officer of a Mig-21 Bis Squadron, Chief Flying Instructor, Fighter Training Wing and OPS- IB at Command HQ. He has undergone Fighter Combat Leader Course, Flying Instructor Course, Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command Course, Instrument Rating Instructor & Examiner and Sector Commanders Course. He was awarded Commendation by Chief of the Air Staff in 1989 and 1995.

Gp Capt Randhir Pratap has been working as the Command Air Defence Officer since his posting to No. 1 Air Defence Control Center, Air Force on 12 Apr 97. His charter of duties in the appointment required him to discharge staff functions in respect of all the Air Defence Radars, variety of surface to air missiles and mobile observation units in Western Air Command. After taking over as Command Air Defence Officer at this Centre, Gp Capt Pratap showed remarkable understanding of his job, encompassing all aspects of Air Defence Operations. These included exploiting the capabilities of each system, their deployment, employment in assigned roles, resolving problems and conduct of exercises. He displayed 'Above Average' professional knowledge and allied skills in providing expert advice and guidance to all the units at all times. He has a highly analytical mind and staff work of a very high standard. His briefs and presentations on Air Defence matters are clear, concise and powerful.

Selfless service and ability to work beyond the routine call of duty makes him a valuable asset. He is highly innovative and accepts each new thought and project as a challenge and has the capacity to show results of his efforts. He is capable of taking independent decisions which together with a high level of honesty and integrity, makes him a potential leader of the future. He has very strong loyalty and integrity towards the Service.

For exceptional devotion to duty, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Randhir Pratap.
