As AOC No.1 Group controlling operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Air Cmde Mehar Singh displayed great devotion to duty unmindful of personal risks and set an example to those serving under him. He was the first pilot to land an aircraft at the emergency landing ground at Poonch and at Leh. Throughout the operations, he displayed devotion to duty, leadership and professional skill of a very high order
