Express Citizens War Memorial
The 'Express Citizens War Memorial Committee' formed by the Indian Express built a war memorial in Pune using contributions from local citizens. This memorial was opened to the public on 15 August 1999 and has the names of over 1100 officers and jawans hailing from Maharashtra, who were martyred since 15 August 1947. The names, which have been etched in marble, are listed in alphabetical order & calendar year and not by rank seniority. The Pune Sub-Area HQ of the Southern Command looks after the memorial's maintenance.
