Tirah Valley

A sketch depicting one of the operations conducted by the British led forces in retaliation for the Pushtun revolt was a raid into the previously untouched Tirah Valley - the bastion of the Afridi tribes. Here in a night action on 16 November 1897, men of the 15th and 36th Sikhs are seen attacking west of Tseri Kandao. The drawing is by W.B. Wollen from a sketch by the war artist, Melton Prior.
