45th Rattrays Sikhs
A stunning painting illustrating the drums of the 45th Rattrays Sikhs. Note the distinctive badge of the Rattrays on the lungis as well as on the staff of the Band Havildar Major, in the foreground, whose beard is magnificent even by Sikh standards. Circa 1910. Thomas Rattray raised the 45th Sikhs as the Bengal Police Battalion in 1857. His son and grandson, Haldane Rattray and Peter Rattray, also commanded the 45th Sikhs in later years.
