Red Eagle Division
Major General M H Ansari (right), Commander of the Pakistan Army's 9th Division is pleasantly relieved as he surrenders to Major General M S Brar (left), Commander of India's 4th Division. The 4th Infantry Division a.k.a. the Red Eagle Division is an infantry division that draws its roots to before Indian independence, having been formed in Egypt in 1939 under the command of then Major General (later Lieutenant General) Sir Noel Beresford-Peirse, KBE, CB, DSO. The Fighting Fourth, as it was also known, was the first Indian formation to go overseas during the Second World War.
