Armed Forces on High Alert

Nov 22: The Armed Forces have been put on a high state of alert following the outbreak of fighting at the East Pakistani border over the last two days. The Armed Forces Chiefs held a meeting with the Defence Minister, Shri Babu Jagjivan Ram on Sunday evening to apprise him of the situation.

Three Pakistani Air Force Jets downed
22nd Nov : Calcutta: The Indian Air Force in a lightning move intercepted three Pakistani Sabre jets that were intruding over Indian Territory and shot them down in aircombat. The Information released by the Ministry of Defence is follows.

At approximately 1500 Hours, Four  Pakistani Air Force F-86 Sabres began attacking Indian Army Forces at the Boyra Peninsula.

Gnat FighterActing on a radar warning, Four Gnats from No.22 Squadron based at Barrackpore were scrambled to intercept this formation.  Flt Lt R A Massey leading the formation gave the order to strike just as the enemy planes were attacking Indian Army Positions.

Pakistani Fighter bites the dust
Gun Camera Pictures released by the MoD show one of the Pakistani Sabres being hit by Gunfire from the Gnats.
Two of the Sabres were shot down by Massey's formation members, Flt Lt M A Ganapathy and Fg Off D Lazarus. The wreckages of both the aircraft fell in Indian territory.

Nov 22: Dhaka: - Delayed Reports coming from East Pakistan have detailed a massive raid by the Mukti Bahini on a Pakistani Troop Train in early November 1971. This resulted in severe losses to the East Pakistani Army


Black Marketeers warned.

Nov 22: New Delhi :- The Finance Minister has today warned against black Marketeers against hoarding important commodities in view of the escalation of hostilities. "We have left strict instructions with the police on how to deal with such kind of Anti - National Elements" the FM said.

Fierce Fighting on the Ground
Fierce fighting has been going on in the Boyra sector for the second continuous day.

Indian Ground Troops have destroyed Thirteen Chafee Tanks and Five Artillery guns.

Two Pakistani Pilots captured.
The Two Pakistani Air Force pilots who baled out in Indian territory after being shot down by Indian Air Force Fighters today were captured by Indian Army ground troops soon after the dramatic air battle.
