Indian Strike Corps advances in Shakargarh.
Vital village of Chakra wrested from Pakistan after heavy fighting.

Dec 11, Shakargarh Sector: A fierce battle ensued in the Shakargarh sector, in which our troops of 74th Infantry Brigade under Brig Ujaggar Singh, assaulted and captured the key village of Chakra. Chakra has been an important stronghold of Pakistani troops and Armour and has been an irritant in our advance into the Shakargarh Bulge.

This place was initally the objective of another formation, the 39th Division which attempted and failed to secure it over the previous days.

The task was given to Maj Gen WAG Pinto, GOC 54 Infantry Division (Also known as Bison Divsion) a couple of days back.

Atleast Six Patton tanks of the enemy have been knocked out at this place. Some of which have been recovered by us.

Leading the attack by clearing the minefield on the outskirts of Chakra was Maj Vijay Rattan Choudhary whose men under his courageous leadership braved the enemy fire to clear a lane for the tanks to go through. However Maj Choudary was killed in action in the fierce fighting that ensued.

The Capture of Chakra enabled the auxillary objective of Delhra to be taken by troops of 6 Kumaon without opposition. With the occupation of both these places, I Corps is now more securely placed in enemy territory than before.

After doing proper recce of the battle area and making preparations, 54 Div launched thier offensive yesterday night. The enemy had developed the positon quite well with minefields and bunkers all around.

There was fierce resistance from the enemy troops. The battle lasted for over four hours at Chakra as troops  of 18 Grenediers supported by 14 Tanks of 4th Horse assaulted the Chakra village from the rear.
