Pakistan attacks Poonch, Chamb in J & K
Poonch attack held back, fierce fighting going on in Chamb

Dec 04, Jammu and Kashmir: Proving that the air attacks on India is a premeditated and well thought out plan, Pakistani troops have launched offensives in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Chamb and Poonch sectors.

Poonch attacked

Soon after the air attacks   yesterday, Troops of the Pakistani army began shelling forward positions on nightfall at Poonch. Two major posts of Thanpir and Chandak were occupied by the Pakistanis and an Indian Army convoy travelling on the Surankot-Poonch road was ambushed. However Indian troops beat the attack back.

Maj Gen Kundan Singh, GOC 19 Div, had said that a counter offensive of troops supported by 9 Para Commando had thrown back the invaders from the occupied posts of Chandak and Thanpir.A subsidiary attack on the Indian Post of Dana was beaten back with severe casualities inflicted on the enemy.

The commanding officer of the enemy battallion is believed to have been killed. The enemy battallion has suffered more than 41 killed in this effort.

Attack on Chamb

A massive artillery bombardment of Indian posts started in the night yesterday. Pak  troops attempted to infilitrate into Indian lines in the night but were held back by Indian forces.

Today morning , Pakistani troops attacked many Indian postions near Dewa supported by Armour and Artillery. A couple of posts near Mandiala North have fallen to the Pakistanis.

The IAF is flying some support sorties to help the army consolidate its positions. Indian troops are believed to have suffered some casualities in trying to retake the fallen posts. The situation is quite fluid and we are awaiting more information from the frontline.
